“WINDOWS OF AVALON is an impressive work of intimacy. It has a rich grasp of the nuances of sexuality and the textures of desire. The slow-burning psychological mystery at the center of the story is thoughtfully revealed over a deliberate timeline for maximum effect. The love triangle between
Rachel, Elizabeth, and James is stunningly believable; rife with complexity of emotion and tense sexual dynamics. Rachel finally touching Elizabeth in a sexual way is a shockingly emotional moment; it resonates boldly, due strictly to the writer’s evocative and empathetic sense of character. When Rachel silently screams, so too will the audience. When the moment is revealed to be a fantasy, it’s like the floor drops out. It’s a moment that shows just how sturdy the writer’s grip on their audience truly is, creating tactile realms of pain and pent-up eroticism, which pop as though rendered in three-dimensions despite being no more than words on a page. The humor is muted and organic, which makes it grounded, but its sheer existence in the narrative helps to make this richly internalized story more palatable. There are moments of bold proclamation; moments that in different hands might come off as saccharine or unearned. But here, these moments do what they’re designed to, and at times the effect is goosebump inducing.”*
*”A one-of-a-kind piece of work that resonates and accomplishes all it sets out to do. The writing is staggering, revealing a new and original voice in the process. The small budget and limited scope of the piece, make it incredibly feasible as an indie project. Whether or not this movie gets made and sets fire to world will strictly rely on fate. But, one thing’s for certain, and that is the writer’s blatant talent, which is on full display here.”
